Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve a desiccant in moldability, hygroscopic property, and in the stability after moisture adsorption, by composing the desiccant essentially of calcium silicate which has gyrolite type crystal structure, and a specific molar ratio SiO2/ CaO.
CONSTITUTION: The desiccant has gyrolite type crystal structure i.e. 2CaO.3SiO2. mH2O (where m is a positive number), and is composed essentially of calcium silicate having 1.6W4.2 molar ratio SiO2/CaO, or of calcium silicate and calcium chloride. In either case, said calcium silicate is composed of circular or ellipsoidal flaky aggregates, and is characterized by ≥3.5cc/g pore volume of pores ≤0.5μ in diameter. The desiccant has high hygroscopic property, can be molded into a shape suitable for use, and is stable after moisture adsorption, causing no decrease in the strength of the molded product.
