Abstract

PURPOSE: A pyrogenic composition that is prepared by adding a water-soluble organic acid as an reaction initiator and a metal oxide as an auxiliary reaction accelerator to the effective compoenets such as iron, thus suitably being used for disposable body warmers because it rapidly generates heat by reaction with water and oxygen to maintain high temperature for many hours.
CONSTITUTION: (A) oowdery or particulate iron and (B) a chloride or sulfate of metal as a reaction accelerator, preferably of metal which has a higher ionization tendency than iron such as alkali or alkaline earth metal, are used as the effective components and they are combined with (C) a metal oxide an an auxiliary reaction accelerator, preferably an oxide of copper or manganess. Further, (D) a water- soluble organic acid such as chloroacetic acid is added thereto as a reaction initiator to produce the objective pyrogenic composition generating heat by reaction with water and oxygen. The proportion of components A through D is preferably 100: 0.5W20:1W20:0.5 or more by weight.
