Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (X1 and X2 are H or halogens; R is alkyl; Ar is aryl).
EXAMPLE: Methyl 5- ( 4' -chlorophenyl ) -5-benzenesulfonyl-2-oxocyclohexanecarboxylate.
USE: A intermediate for the preparation of an anti-inflammatory and an analgesic agents.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is reacted with a compound of the formula CH2=CHCO2R in an amount of two equivalents or more to the compound of formula II in the presence of a base, e.g. sodium methoxide, to give a compound of formula IV in high yield while isolating a compound of formula III which is an intermediate product. The compound of formula IV is then dehydrogenated in the presence of a dehydrogenating agent, e.g. 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-p-benzoquinone, at 80W250°C to afford the compound of formula I. The dehydrogenating agent is used in an amount of 0.5W3 equivalents in the case of a high-energy quinone and a catalytic amount or more in the case of other agents.
