Abstract

PURPOSE: A fumigant preparation for repelling insect pests that is composed of microcapsules containing a mixture of the effective component such as permethrin and a low-boiling organic solvent as the core substance and a pyrogenic substance, thus keeping high stability of the effective component and facilitating the vaporization when burnt, resulting high fumigation rate.
CONSTITUTION: A volatile liquid, a nonvolativel liquid such as permethrin, or a solid such as pyridaphenthion as the effective component are mixed with a low- boiling organic solvent such as propyl alcohol, xylene to prepare the core substance for microcapsules. The mixture is coated with gelatin-arabia gum by the complex coacervation method to form microcapsules and the surface is hardened by coating with an appropriate hardening agent. These mucrocapsules are mixed with a pyrogenic agent mainly consisting of potassium chlorate or the capsules are directly or indirectly placed above the agent and packed in a vessel to give the title furmigant. The present fumigant is especially effective, when a nonvoltatile liquid or solid difficult to be gasified is used as the effective component.
