PURPOSE:To simplify the manufacturing process of a planar display device and improve the safety and santitary control in its manufacturing process and the quality of said device by forming beforehand a solder glass into a molded product and interposing the same between a substrate and a glass cover and fusing the solder glass to unite the substrate with the cover. CONSTITUTION:Solder glass is in advance molded into a molded product 7 while matching its shape with those to be sealingly united together and adjusting its thickness to provide a necessary amount. After having been formulated in a conventional manner, the solder glass is poured into a mold and molded there. Then, it is dried and fired temporarily at a temperature lower than its melting and recrystallization temperature to convert its structure to that containing a flexible structure. With the product 7, a glass cover and a substrate and sealed and united together, thereby the above-captioned device can be obtained.
