Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure an accurate approximation for the operator's size adjustment to the reference value, by calculating the sectional area of the bar stock after measuring the diameter of the bar stock at the positions of many angles by a projection- type diameter measuring device.
CONSTITUTION: The beams emitted from light source 2 are turned parallel to each other through lens 3, and the shadow of bar stock 1 is made into an image on photoelectric transducer array 5 through receiver lens 4. Such projection-type diameter measuring device is rotated around stock 1 and by shaft 12, and the value of measurement is obtained by angle detector 13 with every prescribed angle. The pulse counting is given by a counter to the diameter image of stock 1 which is projected on array 5, and the counting action is repeated in the fixed cycle. And the value obtained is averaged to obtain the desired diameter value. According to this value, the operator can approximate accurately the mean diameter size of stock 1 to the reference value.
