Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled fluorination catalyst with excellent conversion ratio, obtained by supporting CrCl3.6H2O and (NH4)2CrO4 to activated carbon and, after said supported carbon is treated by NH3, heating it in a predetermined temp. range.
CONSTITUTION: Activated carbon is immersed in an aqueous solution of a mixture comprising CrCl3.6H2O; 5pts.wt. and (NH4)2CrO4; 0.5W5pts.wt. and, thereafter, dried. Subsequently, this immersion-treated dried activated carbon layer is contacted with NH3 at a room temp. (about 25°C) and, thereafter, heated at 220W300°C. This heat treatment is carried out in order not to impart abruptly change in such a manner that said activated carbon layer is firstly heated at about 200°C (180W 220°C) and, subsequently, at about 270°C (250W300°C) in an inert gas stream such as N2 and, moreover, heated pref. to 300W500°C in a HF gas stream. The obtained fluorination catalyst is used in reacting HF to 1W4C chloroalkane or the like to replace chlorine with fluorine.
