Abstract

PURPOSE: To impart a specific crushing strength and bulk specific gravity to brown coal and to eliminate the dusting in transportation, by conveying the slurried coal from a mine to a coal yard, and by dewatering and granulating the coal.
CONSTITUTION: Brown coal is pulverized into particles of average size 40W200μ in the pulverizing step 1, slurried into a 20W30wt% aqueous slurry, and transferred to the coal yard via the pipeline 3. The resulting slurry is dewatered to give a water content of about 70wt% in the dewatering step 4, granulated by a disc granulator in the granulating step 5 to form a spherical coal having a grain size ≤5mm and a crushing strength of 0.5W1kg/cm2. The coal is then dewatered and dried at 100°C in the drying step 6 to form the spherical brown coal 7 having a grain size ≤5mm, a crushing strength of 2W3kg/cm2 and a bulk specific gravity of 0.5W0.6.
