Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent occurrence of unexpected accidents in an electronically controlled and driven typewriter in which its platen carrying a typewriting paper is arranged to be movable, by programming such that the carriage is not moved until a particular key is pushed, after power source is turned ON.

If the answer is YES, carriage 31 carrying thereon platen 30 is shifted to the right and it is detected by end sensor 44 (53). Then, carriage 31 is returned leftward to the "marginal set" position and stopped there (54), and the end position and its offset are written in RAM of a control means. Then, required typewriting operation (55) is started. Here, a desired key easy for the typist to memorize can be selected for the above-mentioned particular key.
