Abstract

PURPOSE:To avoid the influence of a light source, a light transmission path, etc., by providing a light delaying section in parallel with a section for converting the quantity of change of a measured body into a quantity of light and by determining the quantity of change of the measured body from the ratio of the quantity of light transmitted through the converting section to that of light transmitted through the delaying section. CONSTITUTION:The output of an oscillator 10 is applied to the electricity-light converter of a light source 5. A light signal is transmitted from a coupling section 6 to optical fibers 3 and then divided into two portions by a light branching unit 11. One of the portions is transmitted through optical fibers 3' to convert a quantity of change into that of light at 1 and then sent to a light coupler 12. The other portion is sent to the light coupler 12 through a light delaying section 13 of l in length and then synthesized with the former portion. The synthesized light signal 4 is converted into electricity at 2 and sampled at 14. Sampled outputs A, B are multiplied by an appropriate factor. The ratio between the multiplied outputs is determined and dislayed at a display 16.
