Abstract

PURPOSE: To surely detect the tape end, by detecting the tape end through the movement of the noncontact type detector together with the head moved along the broadwise direction of the tape.
CONSTITUTION: At a part of the tape 2 providing the magnetic recording surface at one side, the end mark 3 sticked with the Al foil is provided along the broadwise direction of the tape 2. The mark 3 is for the detection of end of recording track parallel to the running direction of the tape 2 and is detected with the mark detector 4. The fixed member 1 is provided with the optical conductor 5 opposing to a part of the opposite side of the magnetic recording surface of the tape 2. The optical conductor 5 is wider than the width of the tape 2, one side is provided with the adjacent incident surfaces 5a, 5a, and also the reflection surfaces 5b, 5c opposing to them, and they are formed with transparent material. Another flat side of the optical conductor 5 from which the light reflected from the relfection surfaces 5b, 5c is emitted is placed in the vicinity of the tape 2, the both ends of the optical conductor 5 is projected from the end surface of the tape 2 and the emitted light is led slightly apart from the end of the tape 2.
