Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a steel-pipe testing apparatus capable of obtaining a performance evaluation close to that in an actual working conditions by applying a large external pressure to the peripheral surface of the steel pipe being tested, and under said condition, applying axial tensile force and torsional force individually or simultaneously to the steel pipe.
CONSTITUTION: A fluid of a given pressure is supplied through an inlet hole 1c to a gap A watertighly formed between the inner surface of a through hole 1a of a vessel body 1 and the peripheral surface 2b of a steel pipe 2 being tested in order to apply the testing external pressure to the peripheral surface 2b of the steel pipe 2. On the other hand, a fluid of a given pressure is supplied through a fluid inlet hole 27b of a tension means 26 to make a peripheral projection 29 push a cylindrical ram 28 so that a testing tensile stress is applied to the steel pipe 2 to perform an external pressure test under a tensile stress. According to the circumstances, pushing means 33 and 33 are operated to generate a pushing force so that a torsional stress is applied to the steel pipe 2 to perform an external pressure test under a torsional stress. The external pressure test can be performed by applying the torsional stress only, in place of a tensile stress.
