Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce an FRP molding material which can provide molded products having uniformly dispersed glass fibers without using a special kneading step, by removing water from an aqueous medium in which glass fibers and a thermoplastic resin are dispersed.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous medium in which glass fibers and a thermoplastic resin are dispersed is produced, for example, by a method in which glass fiber chopped strands are placed in an aqueous medium to open the fibers and, to this mixture, an aqueous emulsion of a thermoplastic resin is added and kneaded well. Then, water is removed from the above mixture by means of evaporation by heating or filtration until a mixture having a water content of about 10%, based on glass fibers, is obtained. Then, title molding material is obtained by pelletizing the product above produced by use of a pelletizer or by cutting the product in the sheet form into small cubes and drying the small cubes.
