Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent vibration in head accessing in a highly rigid structure, by supporting the structure of a carriage guide part at two positions. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic disks 1 are held with a hub 2 and pivoted on a spindle 3. This spindle 3 has bearings 4 and 4' at both upper and lower terminal parts and flanges 12 and 12' outside of them. The flanges 13 and 14 have upper and lower surfaces 16 and 16' on which flanges 12 and 12' are fixed. A carriage guide mechanism 17, on the other hand, holds a carriage 8 and is held at two sides by legs 18 and 18'. For fabrication, a disk assembly is inserted first into housing 13 and fixed. Further, the carriage 8 and its guide mechanism 17 are fixed to the projection part 21 of the housing 13, and housing 14 is coupled with the housing 13. Next, a stator 22 for an electromagnetic operating element is fixed to the housing 14. Consequently, a lightweight, rigid carriage guide mechanism is obtained and transient position- shift vibration in head accessing is prevented.
