Abstract
PURPOSE:To rapidly and accurately measure the concentration of sulfur in molten metal, by using electrolyte impregnated in heat-resisting porous material so that the mixture of metallic sulfide-metallic halogenide is solidified at a room temperature and liquefied at measuring time. CONSTITUTION:Mixture of metallic sulfide-halogenide such as CaS-CaF2 or MgS- MgF2 is impregnated in a porous Al2O3 8 and an electrolyte 2 in which CaS-CaF2 or the like is solidified at a normal temperature and is liquefied at a high temperature of measuring time is incorporated and then, the Al2O38 is fixed to a supporting tube 1. Next, a standard electrode (metal-metallic sufide containing known content of S) 4 is packed after forming an auxiliary electrolyte layer (having the same composition as said electrolyte) 3 and a sealing layer 6 is formed on the upper part of the electrode 4. Further, a leading wire 7 made of Mo or W, graphite which is placed in the electrode 4 is inserted, and an element A for measuring the concentration of sulfur in molten metal is accomplished. Thus, the element A having no defect such as an occurrence of error or the like, caused by a bad contact of the elec trolyte 2 with the electrode 4 is obtained.
