Abstract
1328083 Electro-chemical analysis ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTS Ltd and B C H STEELE 27 Aug 1970 [27 Aug 1969 42576/69 Heading G1N In a solid electrolyte probe formed as a closed cell, the reference material is introduced through a conducting tube forming the inner electrode, and the tube is subsequently sealed to close the cell. The cell may be used for monitoring e.g. flue gas, or oxygen in molten metal. Details: - the reference material is preferably a metal/metal oxide and the cell may be evacuated or filled with an inert gas; the cell may be formed a solid-electrolyte cup with an insulating lid Fig.1 (not shown), or vice-versa Fig. 2 (not shown); or the conducting tube may be of ceramic and integral with the top-plate (20) Fig.3 (not shown); the platinum external electrode may form part of a thermocouple. The solid electrolyte may be an ionically conducting glass or a sulphide or halide for monitoring halogen. In a given fluid, two cells with different reference materials could be used for measuring temperature.
