Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (X is H or OH; Y is H, 2-methyl-1,3,4- thadiazol-5-ylthio, etc.) or a salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: Sodium 7-[D-α-[ 4-hydroxy-pyrazino(2,3-f)quinoline-3-carboxamido ]-α- phenylacetamido]-3-( 2-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-5-yl )thiomethyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylate.
USE: An antimicrobial agent effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, particularly bateria positive to indole of the genuses Proteus and Klebsiella.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II or a salt thereof is reacted with a compound of the formula HS-Y (Y is not H) or an alkali metallic substitution product thereof in a solvent, e.g. water or acetone, under about neutral conditions at room temperature to under heating to give the compound of formula I (Y is not H).
