Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the hull resistance by providing a projection to reduce the hull resistance in the rear end of the stern with a ballast water tank to balance the weight of the projection against the buoyancy and a flooding and drainage machanism inside for preventing the projection from generation of excessive stress.
CONSTITUTION: A ballast water tank 16 is provided inside a projection 9, a wave- killing body fixedly projected backward from the rear end 11 at the full load draft line 10 of a main hull 1 in the stern to reduce the hull resistance, with an air-escape pipe 17a above and a water-intake pipe 17b below. When a draft line 10a is change, water is poured into or drained from the ballast water tank 16 via the lower pipe 17b to balance the weight of the projection 9 against the buoyancy automatically, and the connecting part between the projection 9 and the main hull 1 is prevented from concentration of excessive stresses.
