Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an error of color discrimination efficiently by determining the color of an aimed picture element on the basis of the probability of the generation of a color signal which corresponds to a partial area surrounding the aimed picture element when color separation is performed by reading picture elements of a color picture one by one. CONSTITUTION:A picture signal from an image sensor is separated into either one of red, black and white by a color separating circuit 6, whose output is supplied to one-bit shift registers SR1-, to shift registers SR6- after the one-line delay of a line shift register LSR1 and further to shift register SR10- via a shift register LSR2 successively. Therefore, color signals which corrspond to picture elements X, and A1-A14 are inputted to registers SRX, and SR1-SR14. The color signal which corresponds to the picture element X is discriminated 9. The color signals which correspond to the surrounding picture elements A1-A14 are added 10 and the sum is compared by a comparator 11 with the output of a threshold level generating circuit 12. Outputs of circuits 9 and 1 are separated into black and red signals through AND circuits 13, 15 and 17 and OR circuits 14 and 16 and outputted.
