Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the modificatin of a dither matrix with respect to a half-tone processor by a dither method, by storing respective numericals of two different dither matrixes by addressing each matrix partially in common. CONSTITUTION:In a memory (ROM)1, respective numericals of dither matrixes DM1 and DM2 differing in numerical array, for example, are stored as four-bit digital values in individual addresses while high-order addresses A are assigned in common. To the address A, an address signal (e) for modification is inputted as a ''1'' via a modification switch 2 when the switch is on. According to the ''0'' or ''1'' of the signal (e), the matrix DM1 or 2 is read. In response to clock signal CKs 1 and 2 synchronizing with the scanning of an optical sensor, a picture-element counter 3 and line counter 4 output threshold value Cij which corresponds to an original surface from the memory 1. Then, the threshold value Cij is compared 5 with an optical sensor output Xij and from an output signal Yij, a recording picture with approximate original density is obtained.
