Abstract

PURPOSE:To store a document picture having a small number of colors, with a small quantity of information, by storing information for one page in the 1st memory in the order of picture elements in row without concerning to kind of colors, and also by storing addresses of boundaries in the different color parts in the 2nd memory. CONSTITUTION:Picture information separated into two colors by a lens mirror system is read by image sensors 4A and 4B separately and then converted into color signal CS by operator 10. Signals of respective picture elements separated into signal CS are binary-coded by quantizer 11, and information separated into two parts, background and picture part, is inputted to encoder 12 without discrimination between black and white and stored in memory 13 successively. Meanwhile, synchronizing with a one-picture-element transfer clock which is not shown in the figure, counter 20 counts X and Y coordinate values of picture elements. On the other hand, the number of lines and the run length are encoded 21 synchronizing with the detection of operator 10 as to dichromatic boundary picture elements and then stored in memory 22. Thus, a document picture having a small number of colors is stored with a small quantity of information.
