Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the blocking and carry out the desulfurization efficiently, by bringing a coke oven gas into contact with an absorbent solution containing an alkali and an ammoniacal liquor cooled and condensed from the coke oven gas and phenol or tar acid added thereto.
CONSTITUTION: A coke oven gas 1 is brought into contact with an absorbent solution 3 containing an alkali and 10% or more ammonical liquor cooled and condensed from the gas 1 and 0.1W5% phenol or tar acid (a mixture solution of phenol with cresol and xylenolcarboxylic acid) added thereto in a column 2 to absorb and remove hydrogen sulfide and give a desulfurized gas 4. On the other hand, the hydrogen sulfide in the absorbent solution 3 is oxidized with a gas 6 containing oxygen and a redox catalyst in a column 5, and removed. The alkali in the absorbent solution 3 is regenerated and circulated for use.
