Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of an electric source for driving electric power by a method wherein respective thermal heads formed by dividing a plularity of heating elements arranged in one row into n divisions are driven with time lags in accordance with the number of input data. CONSTITUTION:The inputted data are held by shift registers 19a, 19b..., on the other hand, the total number of the inputted data are monitored by a data number monitoring circuit 16 while the number of data with respect to which an electric current should be flowed into the thermal head ([1] data) is monitored by a [1] data monitoring circuit 17. Next, the number of [1] data is divided by the total number of data in a gate control circuit and in case the obtained ratio between both of the data is less than a predetermined value 1/n, respective gates 20a, 20b... are opened concurrently and respective thermal heads 11a, 11b... are driven concurrently, while in case the obtained ratio is higher than the predetermined value 1/n, respective gates are opened with time lags and respective thermal heads are driven with time lags.
