Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a wire material which is provided with high strength, and high toughness and permits easy descaling by forcedly cooling the same after hot rolling and holding the same at the specified temp. for a required time, thence quick cooling it by controlled cooling. CONSTITUTION:A steel wire material is cooled to about <=800 deg.C for chemical descaling and to about 850 deg.C for mechanical descaling by forced-water cooling up to pinch rollers after ending of finish rolling, and immediately it is forcedly cooled down to the temp. right above Ar1. It is held for a required time at this temp., and from just above Ar1, it is quickly cooled down to the nose of an S curve, and after it is maintained at about 520-580 deg.C, it is immediately cooled by warm water or water, whereby the wire temp. is lowered down to about <=200 deg.C. Then, the steel wire material forms the scale consisting of thin oxide layers rich with FeO, of which the metallic structure is essentially fine pearlite, and fine initially deposited ferrite disperses therein, thus it has the quality equivalent to that of ordinary lead patenting wire materials and is also superior in drawability.
