Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect a turbine exhaust chamber, a wheel chamber, a condenser, etc., by a method wherein cooling water at a cooling water system in a condenser is caused to stay in the condenser, and residual steam, flowing into the condenser, drain and the like are cooled to suppress the increase in the pressure in the condenser.
CONSTITUTION: A circulation pump 1 feeds cooling water, pumped up from an intake pit 5, to a condenser 2 through a circulation water pipe 4. A water shock action may be produced in a cooling water system resulting from the rapid stoppage of the circulation pump 1 due to disconnection at a power source. An air amount, poured through an air pouring valve 7, is limited to a minimum amount which is required for prevention of the hurtful water shock action, and a residual water amount in the condenser 2 is kept in an amount which is as large as possible to hold the cooling capacity of the condenser 2 and protect devices. Additionally, in the case of the emergency stoppage of the circulation pump, an outlet valve 3 of the pump 1 is shut off, and a vacuum pump 10 is actuated to positively increase the cooling water amount in the condenser 2.
