Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the dynamic change of an oil film thickness, by causing a needle electrode to move vertically automatically in accordance with the vertical movement of the interface between oil and water to take out the change of the electric quantity of a capacity electrode.
CONSTITUTION: When a needle electrode 1 is brought into contact with the surface of water 18 in a minute depth, a corresponding electric resistance is generated between the electrode 1 and an underwater electrode 9. A rod mechanism 4 which moves the electrode 1 vertically and a driving servomotor 5 are operated as a loop while comparing this resistance value with the value of a reference resistance 8 so that the contact resistance value is always constant. Therefore, the rod part of the mechanism 4 follows the vertical displacement of the surface of water 18 while keeping always a constant depth for it. When a capacity electrode 2 is put in oil 19 floating on water, an electrostatic capacity corresponding to the thickness of oil 19 is generated in the electrode 2. The electrode 2 moves to follow the vertical displacement of the interface 20 between oil and water faithfully, and thus, the thickness of oil 19 is measured continuously with a high precision.
