Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an agricultural chemical, medicine, functional high polymeric material, etc. in high yield and selectivity, by reacting a halonitrobenzene with an alkli metallic salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid in the presence of nitrite ions.
CONSTITUTION: A halonitrobenzene of formula I (X is halogen; R is H, 1W10C alkyl, carboxyl, etc.; n is 1W2; m is an integer 1W4) is reacted with an alkali metallic salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid in the presence of nitrite ions to give the titled compound of formula II. The reaction is carried out in a polar organic solvent. The method is characterized in the improved yield and selectivity due to the metallic salt of the aliphatic carboxylic acid which will dissolve fully in the reaction system. Expenive equipment is not required, and the reaction solvent can be simply recovered for reuse due to the slight formation of dangerous by-products.
