Abstract

PURPOSE: To make surface roughness finer, reduce strength defects and enhance reliability by using a plate suitable for a rod, and press-forming a cylindrical bearing higher than the thickness of the plate at the ends of the rod.
CONSTITUTION: A prefinished flat and wide plate is adopted for a connecting rod material 1. Two cylindlical bearings 2 and 3 are press-formed on the plate. L1 stands for the length of the bearing 2 which serves as a piston pin bearing and L2 represents the length of the bearing 3 which serves as a crank pin bearing. Both L1 and L2 must be sufficiently greater than the thickness (d) of the plate. A rod 7 connecting these two bearings are connected to flanges 8 and 9 which outwardly surround the bearings 2 and 3 on the same plane. The bearings 2 and 3 are inserted into projections 11 and 12 of a lower model 10. And then an upper model 13 is moved in the P arrow direction. The rod 7 is positioned in the middle of the two bearings 2 and 3. If required, a reinforcing rib 16 is provided for the rod 7.
