Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect a thyristor against an overvoltage by a single overvoltage protecting circuit by connecting a series circuit of a breakover diode and a current limiting resistor through a diode bridge circuit between the gates of the thyristors connected in parallel with each other. CONSTITUTION:A series circuit of a breakover diode 3' and a current limiting resistor 4 is connected between one diagonal connection points of a diode bridge circuit 5, and the gates of two thyristors 1, 2 connected in antiparallel are connected to the other diagonal connection points of the circuit 5. Further, a reverse voltage stopping diode 6 is connected between the gates and the anodes of the thyristors 1, 2. Thus, the overvoltage against a pair of thyristors connected in antiparallel can be protected commonly by a single protecting circuit.
