Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the loss of transmission at a connection part by connecting connected terminal surfacee of low-loss optical fibers for the infrared range together by interposing a matching agent made of a specific organic halogenide. CONSTITUTION:Connected terminal surfaces of optical fibers whose cores or/and clad parts are made of ion crystal and which have low loss in a 3.5-5mum infrared range are butted and while a sleeve is provided around the butt part, the butt gap is filled as a matching agent with a (semi)-liquid halogenide (e.g. hexachloro- butadiene) whose H in a CH combination is substituted by halogen to connect the both together. Since this matching agent does not contain any CH combination for adsorption in the 3.5-5mum infrared range, the loss of transmission at the connection part of the optical fibers is never increased.
