Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an electrode for welding especially useful for MIG welding by forming welding build up layer containing rare earth elements in specified proportion as Ce on the surface of materials for core wire and applying hot and cold elongation.
CONSTITUTION: A welding build up layer consisting of steel coating containing 0.02W0.30wt% of rare earth metals as Ce over whole length is formed on at least a part of outer circumference of usually used material for core wire. An electrode for welding excellent in aimed arc stability is obtained by applying hot and cold elongation work according to usual method. As rare earth elements, generally easily available, for instance, "Misch metal" on the market in which about a half is Ce is used. This welding electrode does not require, unlike prior electrodes, addition of active gaseous O2, CO2 etc. that can cause quality deterioration of welded metal, and stability of arc can be realized advantageously in pure inert gaseous atmosphere.
