Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce titled low-MW resin having excellent properties, by consecutively reacting a reaction product of an α,β-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid (anhydride), water and dicyclopentadiene with an epoxy compound and with an isocyanate.
CONSTITUTION: Compound (I) is obtained by reacting an α,β-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid (anhydride), e.g., maleic acid, with water and dicyclopentadiene (or hydroxylated dicyclopentadiene). Next, air-drying resin (III) is obtained by reacting the carboxyl groups of compound (I) with 0.9W1.3eq. of a β,γ-ether residue- containing monoepoxy compound, e.g., allyl glycidyl ether, and reacting the resulting compound (II) with a substantially equivalent amount of a polyfunctional isocyanate. Then, an air-drying resin composition is prepared by mixing 60W 95wt% said resin (III) with 5W40wt% (IV) ethylenic polymerizable monomer, e.g., styrene.
