Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce titled resin which provides films having excellent properties, by polymerizing a monomer mixture containing an α,β-unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and an amide thereof in the presence of a polyepoxide/unsaturated dicarboxylic acid adduct, and neutralizing the product.
CONSTITUTION: The water-dilutable self-curing resin is produced by solution-polymerizing 8W15wt% of an α,β-unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, 1W8wt% of an α,β-unsaturated monocarboxylic acid amide, a methylolated product thereof or an alkyl-etherified product of the methylolated product and 86W47wt% of other copolymerizable unsaturated monomers, in the presence of 5W30wt% of an adduct obtained by the reaction between the epoxy groups of a polyepoxide and the carboxylic groups of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, and then neutralizing the product. The resin thus produced is a graft resin which contains, as functional groups, epoxy, carboxyl and hydroxyl groups or methylol or alkyl ether grups, and which is stable at ordinary temperature and cures rapidly when heated.
