Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain emulsion producing film having improved water resistance, gloss and drying characteristics by polymerizing methyl methacrylate with other monomers in the presence of cellulose acetate butyrate and alkyd resin modified with polyethylene glycol.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 3W20pts. (based on 100pts.wt. of the combined weight of A+B+C+D) of cellulose acetate butyrate and (B) 0.5W5pts. of polyethylene glycol-modified alkyd resin which is dispersible in water, are dissolved in a mixture of monomers of (C) 10W60pts. of methyl methacrylate and (D) α,β-monoehylenic monomer (e.g. acrylic acid, styrene, etc.) copolymerizable with (C). A surfactant is added to the resulting mixt. and then a polymn. catalyst is added to the mixt. in water. Polymn. reaction is carried out by emulsion polymn. The gloss and the drying characteristics of paint obtained are improved by the combination of (A) and (B) components.
