Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled polymer having excellent storage stability, and useful as an agent for imparting electrical conductivity, by mixing a part of a cationic monomer with the whole quantity of comonomer in a mixture of water and a lower alcohol, and after the initiation of the polymerization, adding the remaining part of the monomer successively to the reaction mixture to perform the copolymerization.
CONSTITUTION: In the copolymerization of (A) a cationic polymerizable monomer of formula (R1 is H or methyl; R2 and R3 are methyl or ethyl; R4 is methyl, ethyl or CH2COOCH3; X is Cl, Br, CH3SO4 or C2H5SO4) and (B) one or more polymerizable vinyl monomers such as styrene, α-methylstyrene, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate and ethyl methacrylate in a mixture of water and a lower alcohol, the polymerization is started by mixing a part of the component (A) with the whole quantity of the component (B), and then performing the copolymerization by adding the remaining part of the component (A) successively to the reaction system. The amount of the component (A) is pref. 40W85wt%.
