Abstract

PURPOSE: Titled composition which is low in volatility of a vinyl monomer and excellent in corrosion resistance and air curability, comprising a specified unsaturated oligoester and a polymerizable vinyl monomer.
CONSTITUTION: A hydroxyl group-containing product (9a) is obtained by reacting an (un)saturated dibasic acid (anhydride) with a phenol novolak/alkylene oxide adduct prepared by reacting a phenol novolak resin with an alkylene oxide in the presence of a strongly basic catalyst or an amine, and then further reacting the product with an alkylene oxide and/or a dihydric alcohol. Then, the product (a) is reacted with dicyclopentadienyl maleate (b) obtained from dicyclopentadiene and maleic acid to form an unsaturated oligoester, acid value ≤30. This ester is then dissolved in a polymerizable monomer such as styrene or vinyl acetate.
