Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce title latex having excellent stability, by emulsion-polymerizing a mixture containing an aliphatic conjugated diene monomer, an alkenyl aromatic monomer and an unsaturated carboxylic acid alkyl ester monomer in the presence of a specified copolymer latex.
CONSTITUTION: One to thirty (1W30) pts.wt. monomer mixture consisting of (A) 10W50wt% ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic monomer, (B) 6W15wt% hydroxyl group-containing monomer and (C) one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of (a) aliphatic conjugated diene monomer, (b) ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid alkyl ester monomer and (c) alkenyl aromatic vinyl monomer is emulsion-polymerized, 70W99pts.wt. monomer mixture consisting of 20W60wt% component (a), 3W40wt% component (b) and 20W70wt% component (c) is added to the copolymer latex and the resulting mixture is completely emulsion-polymerized.
