Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which has an increased wear resistance and durability as well as improved frequency characteristics and S/N, by making the fine grains of graphite fluoride included in a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The graphite fluoride having the formula of (CFX)n wherein X is 0<=X<=1.2 is used which is obtained by fluorinating the graphite and amorphous carbon, and which has the 2.34-2.68 specific gravity, the 1-2 Mohs' hardness and the <=2mu grain size. 0.1'20pts.wt. of such graphite is used for the 100pts.wt. magnetic powder. Using the binder resin which is generally used, a magnetic coating material is obtained and it is coated over a supporter to obtain a magnetic recording medium. This recording medium has a high wear resistance and excellent travelling performance with a reduced output fluctuation even if it is used for a long time.
