Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the wear of a video head and to increase the lifetime and S/N for a magnetic recording medium, by incorporating a ferromagnetic material, a binder, powder chosen from Cr2O3 and SiC plus inorganic powder chosen from Al2O3, TiO2, SiO2 and ZnO respectively, into a magnetic layer.
CONSTITUTION: The following materials are incorporated into a magnetic layer: the 100pts.wt. ferrormagnetic fine powder; 10W400pts. wt. binder (a thermosetting resin, thermoplastic resin or reaction type resin); ≤0.5wt% inorganic powder having 8.5W9.5 Mohs' hardness and 0.2W5μ grain size which is chosen from Cr2O3 and SiC and to the magnetic powder; ≤5wt% inorganic powder which is chosen from Al2O3, TiO2, SiO2 and ZnO based on the magnetic powder; and a magnetic coating material which is ≥10 times as much as Cr2O3 and SiC and contains a proper amount of necessary additive like a dispersant, an antistatic agent, etc. This coating material is coated on a supporter and then dried to obtain a video magnetic recording medium. This recording medium has a long still lie, a large S/N and a small dropout with reduced deterioration in the above-mentioned properties regardless of the repetitive use for a long time of period.
