Abstract

PURPOSE: To form an oxide coat with superior corrosion and wear resistances on the surface of Al in a sufficient thickness by plasma-oxidizing the Al surface after treatment with an acid treating agent.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous soln. of an inorg. acid such as sulfuric acid or an org. acid such as oxalic acid is applied to the surface of Al to treat the Al surface with the acid. At this time, a surfactant is added to the soln. as required. By the treatment the Al surface is dissolved in the acid to form Al salt on the surface. The acid treating agent is preferably used at 30W80°C and applied by 1W50mg/cm2. The treated Al surface is then plasma-oxidized with a plasma incierator. When org. matter remains on the Al surface, by the plasma oxidation it is forced to be burned, so no org. matter hinders the formation of an oxide coat. By regulating the kind, amount and concn. of the acid treating soln., the thickness of the resulting oxide coat can be regulated simply.
