Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent troubles like breaking down and thus increase the productivity by punching a large number of unfinished meshes in a strip of metal sheet, before finishing the meshes by stretching the strip across the width of it. CONSTITUTION:A strip 16 made of a metal sheet such as a coiled lead or a sheet of lead alloyis introduced by a feed roll 17 into a cutting-and-expanding machine consisting of a cutter 19 and a large number of dies 18 that are arranged in an expanding device 11 and are sequentially sent. The machine works in forming a large number of unfinished meshes 4 at the first stage of mesh expansion. Following this, the strip 16 enters a horizontalizing device 20 and is horizontalized, and after that sent into a stretching device 12, which works at the second stage of mesh stretching. In the stretching device 12, both sides 2 are held by a holding device 21, and the strip is stretched across the width of it, forming a mesh strip 5 having a desired size of finished meshes 6. Then the strip 5 is formed into a grid 7 with the help of a shaping device 15.
