Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a tempered plate glass having a beautiful finished colored layer, by specifying the ratio between the coefficients of linear expansion of a low-melting glass frit and a plate glass in forming and heat-treating the colored layer containing the glass frit on the surface of the plate glass.
CONSTITUTION: A low-melting glass frit, e.g. Pb2O3, is mixed with a coloring material, e.g. Cr2O3, a resin a solvent to prepare a paste for forming a colored layer. An alkaline component, e.g. Na2O, is added to the resultant paste to adjust the ratio between the coefficients of linear expansion of the glass frit and a plate glass to 0.5W0.8 in the temperature range of 15W410°C. The paste thus obtained is then printed on the surface of the plate glass by the screen printing method, etc. to give a coating layer thickness ≤15μ after baking. The coating layer is then dried, and the resultant colored layer is baked to the plate glass by heating the plate glass at a temperature of the strain point or above, quenched and temperatured. According to the method, a tempered plate glass having improved tempering degree and surface conditions of the colored layer can be obtained.
