Abstract

PURPOSE: To form cracks on the sides of composite fibers consisting of sheath parts made from a fiber forming polymer and core parts made from an antistatic polymer, expose the core parts partly, and impart improved antistatic properties to the fibers without degrading the fiber quality, by applying a torsional strain to the composite fibers.
CONSTITUTION: A torsional strain is applied to composite fibers obtained from a fiber forming polymer, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, as sheath parts 1 and a polyalkylene oxide (copolymer), e.g. polyethylene oxide, as core parts 2 by the hard twisting, false twisting, etc. to from preferably 10W500 cracks 3 of length ≥50μ per meter in the fibrous axial direction and expose parts 2' of the core parts 2. Preferably, the difference in softening temperatures between the core and the sheath polymers is ≥20°C, and only the polymer in the core parts 2 is softened at the time of applying the torsional strain to the fibers.
