Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable an automatic return to a printing gap corresponding to the paper thickness, which is set in the beginning, after a paper insertion is complete, by a method wherein a platen gap is set by hand and a motor is controlled for running by the use of information in which a position of a member is stored.
CONSTITUTION: The operation of a copy control lever 5 rotates a shaft 6 and an eccentric cam 3 secured thereon, and a platen side plate 2 mating said cam is displaced for adjustment of a platen gap. The copy control lever 5 is then rotated so as to produce the platen gap which corresponds to the paper thickness and is provided at the time when a printing operation is performed. Said position is read in and stored as the number of pulses, transmitted from a photocoupler, by means of a control device. The shaft 6 is turned by running a motor 21 until the platen gap at the paper-inserting time is provided. After the paper insertion is complete, the reverse rotation of the motor 21 causes return of the shaft 6 to a rotation position thereof at the printing time which is stored in the control device, and thereby the platen gap returns automatically to the most suitable width at a time when a printing operation is performed.
