Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent fretting from occurring by a method wherein immersion sulphurizing-nitriding treatment excellent in antifriction property applied to the member in contact with the outer race of a thrust bearing in a variable speed gear provided with a crusher body on the upper side.
CONSTITUTION: In a variable speed gear for a crusher to crush coal etc. the driving force from a prime mover is transmitted to an output shaft 7 through a large gear 6 and the upper crusher body is rotated and driven by the rotation of the output shaft 7. At this time, thrust load is given to the thrust bearing 11 from the rotating part of the crusher body through the output shaft 7 but this thrust load is absorbed by the lower gear casing 10. In the device so designed, a metallic layer 12 is constituted by the immersion sulphurising-nitriding treatment excellent in antifriction property on the surface of the lower gear casing 10. Thus, when excessive thrust load is applied, fretting is prevented from occurring on the surface of the lower gear casing 10 and its durability is improved.
