Abstract

PURPOSE: To store coal safely and economically, by a method wherein an upper part is covered with an airtight film roof to form a closed space where coal is stored, and the closed space is filled with an inert gas.
CONSTITUTION: The upper part of a bottom board 2 and a retaining wall 1 is covered with an airtight film roof 9 to form an indoor space A. An inert gas (chimney gas of coal combustion, from which smoke and sulfur compd. are removed in an exhaust gas-controlling chamber 12) is injected through a gas-injection hole 10 into the indoor space A. At the same time, air is purged through a gas-discharging port. The concn. of oxygen in the gas within the space A is kept at a low concentration range within which spontaneous ignition of coal or coal dust explosion does not occur. Pressure within the space A is kept at a pressure which is slightly higher than atmospheric pressure to maintain the airtight film roof 9 in a required form. Coal is passed through a carrying conveyor 7 within a conveyor trench B, a bucket conveyor 5 and a stacker 8 within a carrying-in tower 3, and is carried into the indoor space A. When desired, the coal is passed through a gate 4 and a carrying- out conveyor 13, and is carried outside. (the numbers 6 and 12 are airtight chambers).
