Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an aluminate phosphor in which deterioration nature is improved, by incorporating Zn, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Li2, Rb2, or Cs2 into an Eu-activated aluminate phosphor.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided an Eu-activated AO-Al2O3 phosphor (wherein A is at least one element selected from Zn, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Li2, Rb2 and Cs2). The preferred europium concn. is within the range of 2/102W1/10 gram-atom per molde of the phosphor. When the phophor is represented by nAO.Al2O3: Eu n is preferably 1.5 or smaller (excluding 0). For example, blue light emission of 0.4 ZnO.Al2O3: 0.01 Eu phosphor at 254nm excitation has an efficiency 1.2 times as high as Sr2P2O7: Sn phoshpor. The titled phosphor is little deteriorated when used in a low-voltage mercurg vapor lamp, as shown by the curve 10 of Figure. On the other hand, the preformance characteristics of Eu-activated β-alumina (Na2O. 6Al2O3, etc.) phosphor in the low-voltage mercury vapor lamp are remarkably deteriorated as shown by the curve 9.
