Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled resin useful as a filler for liquid chromatography, having improved mechanical strength, capable of controlling particle diameters, by impregnating a specific porous crosslinkable polymer with a specified functional group-containing monovinyl compound, polymerizing it, followed by making the functional group hydrophilic.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A porous crosslinkable polymer prepared by polymerizing a polyvinyl compound, e.g., alkylene glycol, etc. or copolymerizing the compound with a monovinyl compound, e.g., methyl acrylate, etc. is impregnated with (B) a monovinyl compound [preferably glycidyl (meth)acrylate, etc.] having a hydroxyl group or a functional group to be converted into a hydroxyl group, a polymerization initiator (peroxide, e.g., benzoyl (peroxide, etc.), and a solvent, e.g., acetone, etc. and heated to remove the solvent. The prepared substance is dispersed in an aqueous dispersion medium and polymerized under heating. Preferably the amount of the component B is usually 5W50wt% based on the resin, and the amount of the polyvinyl compound in the component A is 20wt% based on the total amount of the polymerizable monomer.
