Abstract

PURPOSE: To offer a support for lithographic printing excellent in endurance, by electrolytically etching an aluminum or aluminum alloy plate in an electrolyte solution containing hydrochloric acid and a saturated carboxylic acid to form a deeply grained surface on the plate.
CONSTITUTION: An aluminum plate or an aluminum alloy plate is degreased in advance and cleaned with an organic solvent such as trichloroethylene or a thinner, or an aqueous alkali solution, and then electrolytically etched in an aqueous electrolyte solution containing 0.6W1mol/l of hydrochloric acid and 0.01W1mol/l of a saturated monohydric carboxylic acid containing C atoms of 1W5. The carboxylic acid may be formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, etc., but butyric acid is the most effective in the formation of a grained surface having very dense and deep pits. The etched aluminum plate has the grained surface having deep pits uniformly. Consequently, the adhesiveness of an image pattern part onto the aluminum plate is very strong, and the aluminum plate has an excellent endurance for printing.
