Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the pollution of a carrier for recording paper by a method wherein the width of the recording paper is detected previously, and printing from ink jet nozzles being out of the width of the recording paper is obviated. CONSTITUTION:The width of recording paper is detected by means of a recording paper size detector 15, and the detecting signals (a) are inputted to a printing width control circuit 16. The printing width control circuit 16 forwards the information (b) of the number of characters which can be printed to one line to a printing data generating circuit 17 while transmitting control signals c1-cn to a group 14 of charge signal generating circuits mounted every each ink jet nozzle. The printing data generating circuit 17, on the other hand, reads picture-element resolution data every one character from an ROM12 on the basis of character codes CH sent from an input equipment 11, and stores the data to a buffer memory 13 successively. The signals c1-cn are forwarded to a charge controlling switch group 18, and interrupt the charge signal circuits of the nozzles being out of the width of the recording paper.
